A respected and growing law firm in Billings, Montana is seeking a General Litigation Attorney to join its defense practice. This position offers the opportunity to handle a diverse range of civil litigation matters while working in a collaborative and supportive firm environment.
Responsibilities
- Handle a broad caseload of general civil litigation defense matters from inception through resolution
- Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and discovery responses
- Propound and manage written discovery; draft meet-and-confer correspondence
- Take and defend depositions of parties, witnesses, and experts
- Conduct legal research and factual investigations
- Appear in court for hearings, motions, mediations, and trials
- Communicate with clients, insurers, opposing counsel, and experts
- Develop case strategy and provide timely case evaluations and reporting
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
- Active admission to the Montana State Bar (or ability to obtain admission promptly)
- 2+ years of civil litigation experience preferred
- Experience in defense work, insurance defense, or general civil litigation is a plus
- Strong legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills
- Ability to manage multiple cases and meet deadlines independently
- Professional judgment and strong client-service orientation
Billable Expectations & Compensation Structure
- 1,900 billable hours annually for bonus eligibility
- Bonus compensation tied to meeting or exceeding billable hour expectations
- Base Salary between $120-175k based on experience
- 100% firm paid for benefits
