The successful candidate will execute all collections and related litigation/bankruptcy, from pre-litigation demand through post-judgement enforcement. This role requires familiarity with accounts receivable/billing business processes, legal procedures, management of outside counsel, court filings, drafting and reviewing legal documents, and managing calendars and deadlines.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Collections:
- Prepare and send demand letters, defaults, payment agreements, settlement documentation, and correspondence
- Collaborate with internal teams to resolve billing and payment disputes
- Communicate professionally with internal stakeholders, outside counsel, and tenants
- Set up payment plans/settlements in the system and track payments and account status
Litigation/Bankruptcy:
- Draft and / or review pleadings, motions, complaints, affidavits, claims, and related court documents
- Prepare documents and exhibits for court filing and trial preparation, including monetary damages claims
- Monitor and track case deadlines, hearings, and court appearances
- Coordinate with internal business stakeholders and outside counsel to manage matters and litigation workflow
- Attend and provide testimony for all required court appearances
Administrative:
- Maintain organized and up-to-date case files and databases
- Prepare legal correspondence and internal status reports
- Review legal / case documents and make recommendations for next steps
- Conduct asset research and support judgement enforcement procedures
- Distribute and archive legal mail and court filings
Qualifications:
Required:
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
- Accounts Receivable experience.
- 3+ years of legal experience in collections and litigation/bankruptcy support
- Strong knowledge of court procedures, legal drafting, and document preparation
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and legal case management systems (Legal Tracker)
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail and ability to manage competing deadlines
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, and perform tasks quickly and efficiently
- Self-motivated and independent, detailed oriented, strong work ethic, high integrity and ethical standards
- Ability to exercise or recommend sound business judgement
Preferred:
- Commercial retail real estate experience
- Paralegal certificate or degree in Paralegal Studies, Legal Assistant or related field
- Previous law firm or corporate legal department experience
