Summary

The Estimator is responsible for developing cost estimates for construction as required by clients’ documents under direct supervision.

Essential Functions:

  1. Reviews construction documents and understands scope of work to bid.
  2. Executes electronic quantity take-offs of construction documents.
  3. Inputs take-offs into an estimate spreadsheet.
  4. Manage subcontractor database and contact information.
  5. Obtains cost proposals from subcontractors.
  6. Prepares cost analysis in computer by outlining material, labor, equipment, subcontractor and overhead costs incurred in the installation of items and organizing them on company server.
  7. Where predetermined standard(s) are not available, makes an estimate.
  8. Informs the immediate supervisor of any observed inaccuracies or omissions in quoted items or computer database.
  9. Develops and maintains resource information on products, vendors, subcontractors, government requirements, etc.
  10. Attends departmental meetings as required.
  11. Photocopies documents and plans.
  12. Analyzes architectural blueprints.
  13. Knowledgeable and able to operate computer programs including Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Excel & Word, SmartBid, DropBox and Onscreen.
  14. Able to download, organize and distribute contract drawings and documents.
  15. May visit field of active projects.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands and fingers, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee must regularly lift or move up to 10 pounds and frequently lift or move up to 25 pounds.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel

No regular travel is expected for this position if in office. Travel to and from jobsite if placed in field.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in construction management architecture, engineering, business, accounting, or financing.
