Position Summary
The Controls/Robotics Engineer is responsible for the design, programming, integration, and support of industrial robotic systems used in manufacturing and automated production environments. This role requires strong experience in robot programming, particularly with FANUC robots, as well as PLC programming and system integration. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, can manage multiple automation projects simultaneously, and works effectively with cross-functional engineering and operations teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Program, configure, and troubleshoot FANUC robotic systems for manufacturing and automation applications.
- Develop and maintain PLC programs to support robotic cells, automation equipment, and system integration.
- Design, test, and implement robotic work cells including tooling, sensors, safety systems, and motion logic.
- Integrate robots with PLCs, HMIs, vision systems, and peripheral equipment.
- Support multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring deadlines, quality standards, and performance requirements are met.
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and controls engineers during system design and commissioning.
- Conduct system testing, debugging, and on-site commissioning.
- Provide technical documentation including system layouts, programming standards, and troubleshooting guides.
- Diagnose and resolve robotic and automation issues during system startup and production support.
- Ensure systems meet safety, reliability, and performance standards.
- Support continuous improvement efforts and automation upgrades in manufacturing environments.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Robotics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3+ years of experience programming industrial robots.
- Strong hands-on experience with FANUC robot programming (TP Programming, Roboguide experience preferred).
- Experience with PLC programming (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar platforms).
- Knowledge of industrial automation systems integration.
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent automation projects.
- Experience with troubleshooting robotic cells, sensors, I/O systems, and automation hardware.
- Familiarity with robot safety standards and industrial safety practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with robotic simulation software (e.g., FANUC Roboguide).
- Experience with vision systems (Cognex, Keyence, or similar).
- Familiarity with industrial networks (EtherNet/IP, Profinet, DeviceNet).
- Experience in automotive, manufacturing, or automated production environments.
- Ability to travel for system installation and commissioning if required.
