Senior Cost Accountant

We are partnered with a growing manufacturing company for their newly created Sr. Cost Accountant opportunity.

The Cost Accountant will play a critical role in analyzing production costs, monitoring inventory and variances, and supporting data-driven decision-making to improve operational efficiency and profitability. This role requires a hands-on understanding of manufacturing processes and strong collaboration with production, engineering, and supply chain teams.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and monitor standard costs, actual costs, and variance reporting for materials, labor, and overhead.
  • Create product costs in the ERP system using BOMS, Routers, yield & scrap factors and labor & overhead rates.
  • Ensure accurate Product Costs via analysis and audit of ERP data.
  • Develop and maintain accurate cost accounting systems and cost models to support budgeting and forecasting.
  • COGs and gross margin analysis of the P&L with multiple legal entities and multiple product lines.
  • Conduct monthly inventory analysis, including physical counts, reconciliation, and adjustments.
  • Inventory and related balance sheet account analysis and account reconciliations.
  • Collaborate with production teams to track and evaluate manufacturing efficiency, waste, and yield performance.
  • Prepare cost of goods manufactured (COGM) and cost of goods sold (COGS) reports.
  • Support monthly and year-end close processes, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and audit support.
  • Monitor work-in-progress (WIP), raw materials, and finished goods inventory to ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to improve cost control and margin performance.
  • Explore opportunities for system automation and improved analytical tools.
  • Design and document procedures for industrial accounting.
  • Assist in developing and reviewing capital expenditure projects and their cost implications.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, company policies, and relevant accounting standards.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 3+ years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of cost / industrial accounting and US GAAP.
  • Experience with ERP systems
  • Advanced excel skills (minimum pivots & look-ups).
  • Ability to work independently and manage priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for cross-functional collaboration.
  • CMA or CPA or MBA a plus.
