Cost Accountant – Manufacturing

Our client, a small privately held manufacturing company is looking for a Cost Accountant to join it’s accounting team. The role is newly created and will play a pivotal role in making the company more efficient and profitable. 40-45 HR work week and hybrid schedule

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain cost accounting systems and processes to ensure accurate and timely recording of costs.
  • Analyze manufacturing processes, materials usage, and labor costs to determine standard costs and variances.
  • Conduct regular cost analysis to identify cost-saving opportunities and make recommendations for operational improvements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement cost control measures and monitor their effectiveness.
  • Prepare and review periodic financial reports, including cost of goods sold, inventory valuation, and cost analysis reports.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting principles, standards, and regulations in all cost accounting activities.
  • Participate in the budgeting and forecasting processes, providing cost-related insights and recommendations.
  • Conduct audits of cost accounts and perform variance analysis to identify discrepancies and address them appropriately.
  • Assist in month-end and year-end closing activities, including reconciling cost accounts and preparing financial statements.
  • Provide support during internal and external audits, ensuring accurate and timely responses to audit inquiries.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. A Master’s degree or professional certification (e.g., CMA) is a plus.
  • Proven work experience as a Cost Accountant or in a similar role.
  • Solid understanding of cost accounting principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Proficiency in financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Advanced knowledge of accounting software and ERP systems, with experience in cost accounting modules.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other relevant software applications.
  • Knowledge of industry-specific regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • High level of integrity and commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
