Our client, a prominent NYC-based general contractor, is seeking a Senior Project Accountant to join their growing team. This hybrid role offers the opportunity to take ownership of project financials, partner closely with operations, and play a key part in supporting the firm’s continued expansion across the region.
Responsibilities
- Partner with project teams across operations, design, and field management to keep financial activities aligned and accurate.
- Generate and submit project invoices on schedule, ensuring compliance with contract terms.
- Oversee all job cost functions, including owner billing, collections, subcontractor documentation, and compliance tracking.
- Monitor outstanding receivables and provide regular status updates to leadership.
- Flag and process reimbursable items in accordance with client-specific requirements.
- Manage project closeout within the accounting platform and ensure final financial reporting is correct.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and broader financial planning for active work.
- Move costs from pursuits to active jobs, maintaining clean and accurate records.
- Prepare and submit sales tax filings as required.
- Track project cash flow and support short- and long-term cash planning.
- Assist with audits and resolve questions or discrepancies.
- Help with AP, compliance work, and other project accounting needs.
- Review owner contracts and translate key financial and reporting obligations into workflows.
- Take on additional financial tasks or special projects as needed.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of accounting experience with a strong focus on project financials.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or equivalent experience.
- CPA highly desired.
- Hands-on project accounting background; construction industry experience a plus.
- Solid Excel skills (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs).
- Strong analytical ability and problem-solving skills.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
- Collaborative mindset and comfort supporting multiple teams.
- Clear written and verbal communication.
- Notary or willingness to obtain certification.
